Congratulations, your little one has entered the 6th month, mama! Now is the time to start giving complimentary food to your baby. Fruits are good for babies. We also have recipes, too!
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, once your baby enters their 6th month, they are ready to eat solid food. Apart from your breast milk, your little one now needs additional nutrition to support their growth.
Fruits are among the best foods that you can turn into solid food. Here are some of the best fruits for babies to get you started:
1. Apple
Sweet apples are great for early complementary foods. This fruit is easy to digest and does not cause allergies. First, prepare an apple by peeling and washing it. Then cook them by steaming them using a steamer.
Once the apples are soft, you can puree the apples using a food processor or fork. On top of this, you can add breast milk and a pinch of cinnamon to add flavour.
2. Banana
Banana is another good fruit to give your 6-month-old baby. Serving bananas is very easy because you don’t need to cook them. In addition, bananas also provide fiber that aids in the digestion of your little ones.
All you need to do is take a ripe banana, peel it, and cut it into small pieces. Once that is done, mash the bananas. Just like the apples, you can choose to add a little breast milk or water to make the solid texture runny.
3. Avocado
Avocado is a fruit that is a source of unsaturated fats, which are good for health. In addition, avocados also contain vitamin E, which babies need to support their development.
Mama can process ripe avocado, peel, and remove the seeds. Then take the avocado flesh and puree it using a fork, blender, or food processor. And you’re done!
4. Peach
Peaches contain a lot of beta-carotene and potassium. Both of these nutrients are great for supporting your little baby’s growth.Â
First, wash the peaches. Once done, boil the water and cook the peaches for some time. After this, it would be best to place the peaches in cold water.Â
Peel the skin, slice, and mash the peaches. Add a little water to make the texture runnier. Once ready, you can serve it to your adorable baby.
5. Kiwi
Kiwi is rich in fiber, vitamin A, and vitamin C. This is known to strengthen the immune system of both babies and adults.
Take one kiwi, peel it, and mash it. Alternatively, Kiwi is also ready to be served to your little one without cooking or removing the seeds.
WARNING: Because it has a sour taste, sometimes kiwi can cause allergies in children. So you need to pay attention to signs of allergies or consult a doctor.
6. Papaya
Papaya has a naturally sweet taste that your baby may love. Not to mention that it contains high levels of folate, fiber, and vitamins A, C, & E.
It would be best to go for ripe papaya, which is usually orange in color. Wash the papaya using a mixture of vinegar and water to remove bacteria. Rinse using clean running water and then dry.Â
Next, peel and cut the papaya, remove the seeds, then wash again. After that, cut and mash the papaya.
You can add water to make solids with the desired thick texture.
7. Guava
Guava is rich in vitamin C, which helps boost your little one’s immune system. The fiber content in guava fruit can also improve the baby’s digestive health.Â
To prepare, take a ripe guava and cut it into 2 parts. Remove the seeds using a spoon. Once done, you can cut the guava flesh into small pieces and cook it by boiling it in low-level water.
8. Dates
Lastly, dates are rich in nutrients. It is a natural source of calcium that aids in the bone development of your baby.
Take 15-20 seedless dates and cook in a saucepan with enough water. After boiling, cool, and strain to get a smooth juice. Reheat until the solids thicken, then store them in an airtight container so dates can last for a week or more.
You may add this to any dish that you will serve to your baby.
